Command & Conquer – Tiberian Dawn

A return to origins:

After having finished Red Alert 3, I decided to install again the First Decade, a collection of all Command & Conquer games (well, almost all, Sole Survivor is not included), and play them in order.

So now I have started on the first C&C game, Tiberian Dawn, or just known as Command & Conquer. Unfortunately my free time is not much, so I can’t play as much as I would enjoy, although in the weekends I am able to be until 3am playing, he he.

I’ve also used a community patch, that you can grab on EA official forums, to be able to play at 1024×768. It really looks like a new game.

In the immortal words of the ‘Commando’: I’ve got a present for you!

Red Alert 3

On November 31st was the official release date for this great game. Being myself a big fan of the series, of course I had to pop up to the closest game store and get myself a copy of the game.

Since then, I’ve already finished the Soviets story and started on the Allies story. The cutscenes are great, with the actors giving a good sense of atmosphere to the game. The acting is good, the history as well, and also during the game there are small videos to keep you up to date on the battle events.

The game is slower than the previous Red Alert’s, but this contributes to the missions being longer and also to be easier to plan a strategy to finish the enemy. On Red Alert 2 I found myself several times just building and building a type of unit and sending against the enemy until he fall.

In this new game, when you play the single player missions, you can play with a co-op IA general, or you can play with a friend online. This is good, since you can have the help of someone to accomplish the missions.

The units are good as well, many of them are already familiar to whom has played the previous Red Alert. Some have disappeared, because of the story. I don’t want to get into much detail so I won’t spoil the story for you.

The graphics are very good, with no slowdowns as far as I could find. The soundtrack is probably the best on all the C&C universes. Simply astonishing.

Overall, is a great game, and although slightly different from the previous Red Alert, if you are a fan of the Red Alert universe I’m sure you will enjoy this game as much as I’m enjoying it.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

I have been playing this game for the last few days, and is really great. This is the PSP version, and it has been a while since a game has made me use so much my PSP.

I started playing on Story mode, where we follow the path of Darth Vader’s apprentice. The story mode took me around 16 hours to finish. It is very interesting on the sense that thought the history we see this dark apprendice fight and put into doubt everything he believes.

After we finish the story mode, we also have the unleashed mode. On this mode, we can have a type of Mortal Combat style: fight several opponents one at a time to climb the ladder and be the best Jedi out there.

Then we have the famous scene mode, where we can re-live famous scenes from the movies. Unfortunately, there are not so many scenes, only five, which is a shame. I would love to see some more fights, like the one between Master Yoda and Count Doku, or against the Emperor. However, is still very good to see Anakin turn into the dark side, or to relieve the fight between Anakin and his Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Probably the Wii or PS3 versions are better, however, to play on the train on the way to work, this little game is really a great option out there. Definitely recommended.

Force Unleashed The Movie?

Is the Secret Apprentice going to get his big-screen debut? Rumors circulating over at Skywalker Ranch seem to be pointing to yet another Star Wars movie undertaking. If you’ve had a chance to tackle the new video game you know the main character is meaty enough for his own DVD release, but a whole major-budget film? I’m not so sure about that.

Command & Conquer 3 and Kane’s Wrath

Well, this game has been out there for a long time. As the picture says, since March. And I have been playing it a long time.

But now I have some little free time (very little), and will start making some reviews of the games I’ve bought.

After this one there will be for Sega Rally, Colin McRae Dirt, Bishock, Need for Speed Carbon and Hellgate London. Yes, they are all old games, but maybe after these I can make some review of a more recent game.

Starting with Command & Conquer 3, i enjoyed the game very much, until it ended.

The units are very nice, and with the last patch is very balanced. Some of the missions may seem hard, but with some trial and error you can easily pass them.

The new race just have a couple of missions, with is a shame, because I really loved the species. The units are great, and I would like to have explored that a little more.

I was hopping for a little more from the endings, where it was kind of disappointing to me.

The expansion is all about the NOD. Granted there are now factions, and the new mode Conquer the World, but is not enough. I would like to be able to explore the history from Command & Conquer 3, and to play a little more with the third race.

I hope there will be a new expansion, or tow (on for the GDI and one for the Aliens).

In overal, is a game that after 6 months of owning it still makes me want to play it :)
