Star Trek viewing order

Now that I’m on a little break from work I decided to go back and refresh my star trek. It’s been a while since I’ve watched it and now I’m watching everything in order.

It’s not as easy as it might seem, as some of the seasons and movies overlap. Bellow I’ve devised an order to watch the series and the movies without missing continuity events.

In this order I did not account for time travel episodes, as I don’t think is worth to break a season in half just to see an episode from another season or series that happened on that stardate. But I guess that for the most hardcore fans, they might do that :p

Anyway, without any further ado, here’s the viewing order for all of Star Trek. Movies are in italic bold.

The Original Series

The Animated Series

The Motion Picture

Wrath of Khan

Search for Spock

The Voyage Home

The Final Frontier

The Undiscovered Country

The Next Generation S01-06

Deep Space Nine S05

Voyager S03

Deep Space Nine S06

Voyager S04

Issurection

Deep Space Nine S07

Voyager S05-07

Nemesis

You could leave Star Trek Enterprise series to the end, as it was the last one released, and set as a prequel, and, in my view, showed a somewhat more advanced Enterprise. At least regarding the looks I think the NX-01 looked better than the NCC-1701.

Finally, after you’ve seen all this you should go back and watch the new Star Trek movie, which changes the time line and hopefully will, in the near future, introduce new series.

Live long and prosper.

Star Trek TOS Season 1 (Remastered)

Enterprise

This is a nice way for me to start the Star Trek collection. Like all good things, we should always start from the beginning.

The remastered version (actually, the second remastered version), looks impressive. The show does not look as outdated as the original picture. The effects are much better now, the lights, the shadows, the sounds, well, everything.

Now in my collection is only missing two more seasons of TOS, full TNG, full DS9, full Voyager and full Enterprise (plus the animated series, although I don’t really want them that much, at least for now).

Star Trek XI

Star Trek XI Enterprise

Last Sunday I finally went to Odeon to see the new Star Trek movie. It does cut with the past (or the future?) of the series, and in the end left me with a mixture of feelings.

I’ve enjoyed the movie. There is a lot of action, the acting was good and the story was cool. But, at the same time, there are those things that you think “why haven’t they done this differently so it would be easier?”. Also, the events on this movie create a new universe, so what we have learned trought the characters of TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise gets lost in time.

All in all, is a movie that is worth seeing. Storywise, I dare to say it is the best Star Trek movie so far. But because it cuts completly with the know universe, other people might disagree (a part of me does).

Star Trek XI in 5 months

Only five more months to go, so that we can go to the cinema see the new Star Trek XI, directed by J.J. Abrams.

The movie will be a return to origins, where we will see the young days of the crew of Star Trek. Kirk, Sulu, McCoy, Ahura and Spock, among many others, will make us company during the duration of the movie.

A second trailer has emerged, and this must be torture. A trailer like this, and we still have to wait five more months. So far, it looks like the original canon will not be followed, so maybe this means a new era for Star Trek will begin now.

Maybe one day we may have more than a glimpse of NCC-1701-J.

Also, make sure to check the trailers following this link.
